This project is a labour of love, two years in the making, and a major fundraising effort for our organization. Sixteen singers, songwriters, musicians and poets have contributed their original music in a compilation CD, Hear Now, a featured cultural project. Talented young people join seasoned professionals in this multiple mix of music genres. All recording and engineering have been donated by Track 6 Studio. The Gala Concert CD Launch was held at the Victoria Jubilee Hall in Walkerton on Oct.16th 2010 before an enthusiastic audience. All proceeds are dedicated to our Volunteer Tutor Program supporting struggling young learners. Words Aloud – the festival that brings a small town . . . to its feet!
Canada's best poets and storytellers electrify audiences, revealing spoken word's power to delight, inspire and transform. This documentary takes you on a journey through the many forms of spoken word, including dub, slam and lyric poetry, performance poetry, and storytelling. The film addresses issues of immigrant experience, inner city issues, and cultural identity, including black and aboriginal points of view.
You’ll get an insider’s look at the Words Aloud Festival — performances, interviews, and the story of Adam, an 18-year-old student who begins to find his own voice. You’ll discover what makes a poet, what drives them to create, what’s most difficult about the writing life, and what compels them to continue.
You’ll see how a small town creates a vibrant poetic community. Canada’s 2010 Olympic poet, Shane Koyczan, demonstrates why our own voices are so important and why poetry is truly the shortest distance between two hearts.
Words Aloud’s goal is to create community through a shared cultural experience and support literacy learning for youth.
